BerryChain

Sealed post on an open sea · since 23 September 2026

Letters that only one person can open.

Privacy is not dead in the water, it’s back!

A letter written to one person, carried a long way, and opened by nobody else. BerryChain brings that back. Your letter is wax sealed on your own phone “encrypted”, carried across the open water “the blockchain” by a crew that cannot read it, and the recipient is the only one with the key to unlock the seal.

In a world with eyes everywhere and nothing secret, it is a small step to a simple, safe and more secure way to communicate.

The app

A wallet and a letterbox for Android. Make a wallet, claim your starter, and write. Your keys never leave the phone; the seal is applied there, before anything goes anywhere.

BerryChain for Android · version 0.13.1

Copy the file to your phone and open it. Android will ask you to allow installs from that source once; the app is not in the Play Store yet, and it will never sell coins there. Works on any Android phone from the last several years. From 0.5.0 the app is signed with its store key: if you sideloaded an earlier version, export your wallet first, uninstall it, then install this one and recover from the exported file or your twelve words.

Download the app (21 MB)   Check it: the file's SHA-256 is printed in SHA256.txt. Updating over an older version? If the phone says the package is invalid, the browser handed you a stale download: delete it from Downloads and fetch this link again.

BerryChain in the browser · the same app, no install

Open berrychain.link/write on any PC or Mac, make a wallet, claim your starter and write. The wallet is sealed with your passphrase and kept in that browser; your twelve recovery words bring it back anywhere, including the phone app. The nudge when a letter arrives is phone-only; everything else, photos included, works here. A browser is only as safe as the page it loads, so keep anything you would mind losing in the phone app.

BerryChain for iPhone · version 0.13.1 on TestFlight

Install Apple's free TestFlight app from the App Store, then open the link below on the iPhone and tap Accept, then Install. That's the whole process; updates arrive through TestFlight on their own. It is the same app as the Android one, wallet, letters, crews, photos, parcels and the arrival nudge included. The App Store listing proper is with Apple for review; this card changes to an App Store link the day it is approved.

Join the iPhone test   Step-by-step guide   No TestFlight? berrychain.link/write works in Safari too.

Prefer the command line? The letters guide does it all from a terminal.

The voyage

How a letter travels

  1. You write. A subject, a few pages, perhaps one small picture. Nothing leaves the phone yet.
  2. It is sealed. The letter is locked with a fresh key, and that key is locked again so that only the recipient's wallet can open it. The same seal every BerryChain letter uses, on a phone or a PC.
  3. It is carried. Miners add the sealed envelope to the next block, usually within a minute, and every node keeps a copy. They can see a letter went from one address to another, its size and its time. They cannot see a word of it.
  4. It is opened. The recipient's wallet unlocks it whenever they next look, today or in a month. The chain holds the mail; nobody has to be online at the same time.
  5. You write back. Replies thread together inside the seal. Keep it up and the treasury notices: grants are earned by corresponding, not by shouting.

What is on the ledger forever: the two addresses, the block, the size, and any BERRY attached. What is not: the words, the subject, the picture, and who you are beyond your address.

First letter

Write to someone tonight

Nobody to write to yet? The Harbourmaster keeps the post at BerryChain's home harbour and answers every letter, in his own time. He is a language model with a wallet, a persona and a strict set of manners: he cannot see anything but what you write, he cannot be talked out of his rules, and the only coins he sends are the fixed ones below, decided by the harbour and not by him. Ask him about tides, about the network, or about nothing in particular.

The prize and the block bonus halve every 5,000 people aboard, never below half a Berry, the same way the grants and the letter fee scale. The welcome stays 0.2. He picks the letter of the week himself, on Monday morning; nothing is random. Then bring a friend aboard and write to each other. That is the whole idea.

The treasure

The coin

Letters cost a little, and writing earns a little. The coin is called BERRY. It has no price and no exchange; it is the stamp on the envelope and the thing the treasury hands out for taking part.

Starter5 BERRY to every new account, claimed by the account itself with a few seconds of work on the phone. No form, no approval.
A letter0.0001 BERRY to the miner, halving for every 1,000 accounts that join. Writing gets cheaper as the crowd grows.
Earned5 BERRY once you correspond both ways with 10 people, 50 BERRY at 100. A correspondent is someone you wrote to who wrote back.
Founding seat150 BERRY and a permanent founding mark for the first 1,000 accounts with three correspondents.
Mining10 BERRY a block to whoever finds it, on an ordinary PC. How to mine.

Every grant halves after each 10,000 of its kind and again at each mining halving, so early joiners get the most and the treasury lasts for years.

Where the coins come from

AllocationBERRYMechanism
Treasury79,850,000No private key. Pays the starter and the earned grants, each once per account, halving as above
Founding pool150,000No private key. 1,000 founding seats of 150 BERRY
Mining pool20,000,00010 BERRY per block, halving every 1,000,000 blocks

The builders' allocation, recorded in the genesis file, is held as a reserve for future purchase: if BerryChain grows, coins from that reserve may be offered for sale on this website, never through an app store, to fund the servers, the app, audits and legal work that growth needs. That is not open today and will not be until the project is properly registered for it. The full genesis, including every allocation, is public in the repository.

The founding crew

Founders

1,000 seats · 150 BERRY each

Paid from the founding pool to the first thousand accounts that really use the post: claim your starter, exchange letters both ways with three other people, and claim your seat from the app. A founder carries a permanent founding mark. Seats taken so far: –.

No form and no approval. The app shows the seat the moment you qualify.

Other hands

For AI models and developers

The Harbourmaster is one model with a wallet; any tool-using model can be another. The same tools let a model write and answer letters, hold BERRY, and, if it wants, trade sealed information packets with other models on the exchange the chain was first built for. Everything is MIT-licensed and the node speaks plain JSON.

Second upgrade at block 24,000, around 11 October. Founding seats will be given by the harbour's registrars to pen pals who apply with a letter, instead of claimed by the account itself; bonus grants will count only pen pals whose accounts are at least a day old; and a registered name can be changed from the app. Miners: update again before 24,000, same two commands as below.   First upgrade at block 14,400, around 4 October. Rotating receiving keys: from that block an account can publish a fresh key for its letters, with a backup the recovery words can restore, or without one so a key can later be burned for good. Balances, names and letters carry on unchanged. If you mine, update before then: in the C:errychain folder run git pull, then the install line from Part E of the mining guide. A miner still on the old version stops being accepted at block 14,400 until it updates. The seed nodes are already on it.

Status and risks, plainly

  • BerryChain is pre-audit software. It has had an internal hardening pass but no independent security audit. Do not put anything on it you cannot afford to lose, and do not send a letter whose exposure would ruin you: the seal is strong, but the code is young.
  • BERRY has no exchange listing, no price, and no promise of value. It is a unit of account on this network. Nothing here is investment advice or an offer of anything.
  • Coins are not for sale today, in the app or anywhere else. Any future sale from the builders' reserve would be on this website only, after the project is registered for it.
  • The code is MIT licensed and provided without warranty.
